It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Waldo E Shaw on May 28, at the age of 94.

Waldo was the eldest child of the late Kenneth Sr. and Ruth (DeLong) Shaw. At the untimely death of his father in 1944, at the young age of 14, Waldo began the role of supporting his family. At that time, it was his Mother, and his younger 6 siblings. He did graduate from high school, a significant achievement in the time period, especially considering his family situation. He was the first of 43 cousins to do so, and it would be many years before there would be a second one. He would attend night school, earning a diploma in finance/accounting. Waldo would work many jobs, as a very young boy at the Dominion Grocery store stocking and delivering groceries, driving a Coke truck for Woodstock Bottle Works. Then accounting for Jock Fraser in the potato industry. He spend a short time traveling to Mactaquac working in the accounting department in the early stages of development of the dam. The traveling and being separated from his family, was difficult. After a short work career in Mactaqvac he went to work in the office of the family owned Karnes Bakery where he spent many, many happy years. He also kept books for many small business and friends in Woodstock. His last stop was the school board until his retirement. He enjoyed the school board but once computers were becoming a part of the system, he felt it was time for him to retire.

Waldo was a man of great Faith. The church community and the Knights of Columbus have been a very important part of his life. He worked tirelessly for his beloved Church. As a family, we witnessed his years of passion and dedication to his brother Knights and what they stand for, and work so hard to accomplish. He especially enjoyed Monday night Bingo. He got to know those regular bingo players who I know looked forward to getting their special game cards from Waldo. He truly enjoyed being around people. On the many occasions, selling raffle tickets at Sobeys, he could bring people in with his gift to gab. Waldo could always find things to talk about with just about anybody. He enjoyed meeting people. The flipside was also true. People enjoyed meeting him. Waldo draws people in with a friendly smile and a genuine interest in everyone. He served all positions at the Knights including Grand Knight. He was devote, loyal, and had a great respect for his brother Knights.

Waldo loved his hometown of Woodstock. He volunteered and served on many organizations and fundraisers in many capacities. He was an active member of the Liberal Party of Canada and served as the Deputy returning officer for many years. He was a member of the Woodstock army cadets and Canadian Army Reserves and Royal Canadian Legion. He served his beloved home community in many ways and very much a respected man of principle and moral standing.

Waldo was an avid reader, absolutely loved to read. He had a passion for any political related memoir, as dry as they are, all compelling to him. The family knew they could buy any political biography of any strip and he would be delighted! Waldo also loved to play Cards, Specifically the game of rummy, for money! He would come prepared with a pouch full of change, unfortunately to probably lose but that did not discourage him. He was always very positive and enthusiastic to play and hopefully win a good game of cards.

Though Waldo 'wore' many hats. His favorite was the one that involved his family. You see, Waldo was very much a family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a great friend. . He will always be remembered for driving his daughter and son to their events and games. Always cheering them on. Some of his nieces can recall the first time they went to the theatre, was with their uncle Waldo.

Family was the most important thing in his life. From the time he lost his parents he was driven to keep family together, this innate love her family has followed him all of his life! He lived his life with compassion, kindness, and most emphatically LOVE.

On May 7th 1955, Waldo would marry the love of his life, Doreen (Martin). After a couple of moves, they would eventually reside in their home on Riverside Drive. They would raise their family here, daughter Pam and son Martin along with a Beagle named Happy. Many family reunions were had here, making memories that would last a lifetime. Right up to the last days Doreen was his world and would always light up when she came into the room. His heart and love for her is a true love story!

Waldo was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Ruth, his son-in-law, Rick Kydd, siblings, Azlee, Kenneth Jr., and Sharon. He is survived by his beautiful bride of 69 years, Doreen, daughter Pamela, Son Martin (Andrea). His grandchildren Jeffrey (Sarah), Peter (Lili), Brittany (Chris), Marieka (Nick). Great grandchildren Lorna, Westley, Chloe, Theo, and Olive. His siblings, Sheldon, Rosalie, and David. As well as many nephews and nieces.

A long life lived with so much love to give….we love and miss you always.

Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024   from  1 pm - 4 pm

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. at 11 am at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church. Father  Martin Arputham will be officiating with interment in the Calvary Cemetery.

If desired donations can be made to Calvary cemetery, or a memorial of the donor's choice.
