Ross Charles Grant of Fredericton, NB, passed away on May 18th, 2024 at the DECH, in the presence of two things he loved most: hockey and family.

Born on February 3, 1950. in Woodstock, NB, he is the eldest son of the late Lloyd and Ruth Grant.

Ross spent his childhood caring for animals on the farm, fishing in the brook, playing ball and hockey in the neighborhood, and on Lloyds wood truck or out hunting with his father and brother.

He is survived by siblings: Calvin (Lois) Grant, Joyce (Byard) Smith and Shirley (Sam) Galloway; five nieces and a nephew: Crystal (Jean-Michel) Valade, Amy Smith, Chelsey (Jameson) Ferguson, Grant (Tali) Smith, Carie (Michael) Grant and Kaley (Austin) Paul and 10 great nieces and nephews: Liam, Kyalynn, Noah, Alana, Haven, Isabelle, Asa, Harper, Nova, and Olive.

His love of knowledge led to a 20 year teaching career at Chipman Junior High. An inquisitive and keen student of life, he filled weekends and summers as a photographer, and his retirement from education led to tree-trimming and providing care to his good friend, Kenneth Whaley.

As a die-hard Maple Leafs #1 fan, he will be remembered for a lifetime of family Saturday Hockey nights, where he made sure there was plenty of butter on the popcorn. His love of sport was extensive, and his second favourite was easily catching the Jays games. Despite being a man of few words, he was a walking encyclopedia for most any topic aside from politics, and could easily recite details and knowledge to anyone. He was always up for a meal, a top-up on his tea mug, and would happily devour anything offered, usually with a healthy serving of condiments.

The family wishes to extend many thanks and gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff of 4SE at DECH.

Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from, 1 pm – 2 pm at the Scott Funeral Home Chapel with Funeral Service to follow in the Chapel at  2 pm.

Rev. David Rowe will be officiating, with private interment in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fredericton Community Kitchen, Fredericton Homeless Shelters, or the donor's choice.
