Obituary

The death of Robert Earl Tapley of Lower Woodstock, husband of Reta E. (Davidson) Tapley, occurred on Friday, May 28, 2004 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital. Born in Teeds Mill, he was the son of the late George and Bernice (Watson) Tapley. Robert was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) in England, France, Belgium, and Holland. Robert was wounded in action at Fort de Merxem, Holland on October 14, 1944. After he returned to Canada, he worked for the Department of Transportation. He liked hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking, and enjoyed looking after the 3-1/2 acres that he called home. In addition to his wife of 57 years, Robert is survived by two sons, Rev. Allen Tapley and his wife Joan of Sussex, and E. Gerald McKenzie of Woodstock; one daughter, Valerie Tapley of Grafton; one sister, Sarah Jones of Woodstock; a sister-in-law, Marie Tapley of Woodstock; grandchildren Rachel, Sarah, Gena, and Randy; a great grandddaughter, Michelle; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was predecesed by a brother, Clifford Tapley. Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM from St. James United Church, Chapel Street at Green, Woodstock. Rev. Fred Snyder will officiate, with interment to follow in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery.
