Robert Irvine
Porter
Aug 27, 1924 — Jul 14, 2018
PORTER, Robert Irvine of Woodstock, New Brunswick passed away at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville on Saturday night, July 14, 2018. Bob was almost ready to celebrate his 94 th birthday.
Robert was born in Benton, New Brunswick on August 27, 1924 and was the son of the late Earl and Christina Porter. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys, his brother Merrill Porter and his sister Helen Shaw.
Bob leaves behind his six children: Joan Everett (Gordon), Carol Speer, Ralph Porter (Wanda), Janice Farrell (Edward), Sherry Twigg (Bill) and Wade Porter (Myrna-Lee) and their families. He is also survived by his brother Tom Porter (Thora), sisters-in-law Shirley Porter and Marion Anderson, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bob was a veteran of World War II. When he came home from overseas, he lumbered in the woods and then went to work for the Canadian National Railway. Carleton Manor was his last place of work where he carried out maintenance duties.
Bob loved being outside whether it was fishing, hunting, gardening and anything else including their cottage at 1 st Eel River Lake. Bob and Gladys enjoyed their retirement years visiting Sherry in Ontario, attending music events with Bob's brother-in-law Eldon and being a part of the Woodstock Wesleyan Church.
Bob encouraged us all to live with the living and always have three of whatever you may need! He did take his time getting ready for that fishing trip but he had everything he needed and more.
The Porter family thanks the staff at Riverside Court for taking care of him these last three years. And thanks as well to the staff at the Upper River Valley Hospital where he spent the last three days of his life.
We will celebrate Bob and his life at a family funeral on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 11:00 am at Scott's Funeral Home in Woodstock with burial to follow at the Woodstock Rural Cemetery.
If desired, donations in Bob's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, the Woodstock Rural Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice.
