Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Naida Geraldine (Johnson) Margison on November 8, 2022, at Riverside Court in Woodstock, NB.  She was born on January 24, 1931, in Oxbow, NB to Alonzo & Ruby (Curry) Johnson and a family of 14 brothers and sisters.  She married Preston Margison on August 3, 1951.  They resided in Woodstock from then on in the same home until she went to Riverside Court in December 2019.

Naida is survived by two daughters; Natalie (Romke) Elsinga of Bloomfield, NB, and Sally Margison (Frank) of Calgary, AB, two Grandsons; Gerrit (Lisa) Elsinga of Long Settlement, NB, and Jacob Elsinga of Woodstock, NB and two Great-Grandsons; Ron-Allen and Preston Elsinga of Long Settlement, NB.  Also survived by one sister, Greta Campbell of Plaster Rock, NB as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Preston, daughter Melanie Margison, infant daughter Patricia Margison, and 6 brothers and 7 sisters.

She was well known for her knitting and quilting talents, knitting for many years for Cottage Craft of St. Andrews, and for the hundreds of Christmas Stockings that she knit for people over the years.  She enjoyed quilting with her sisters on the Tobique, returning for many visits there with family and friends.  She enjoyed doing puzzles, many times working on them late into the night.  Bingo was another thing she enjoyed, and you knew not to call on TV bingo night!  She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends, and we all loved her rolls and pies!  She loved her visits to Skiff Lake with Marjorie, doing puzzles, watching DVDs, knitting, reading, and enjoying the lake views.  She attended the Woodstock Baptist Church for many years.  She thoroughly enjoyed her trip to South Africa in 1990 with her sisters and her vacations to Florida with the Ross family.

Naida was known as "Nanny Naida" to the many children that she cared for over the years in the Woodstock area, maintaining many long-term close relationships with them.  All of the children were very special to her.  She also worked as an overnight sitter for patients at the Carleton Memorial Hospital.

Special thanks to beloved and trusted friend Marjorie Ross of Woodstock NB for always being there for Naida.

The family would like to thank Sharon, Susan, and the rest of the staff at Riverside Court for their compassionate care of Naida while she was there.  Also to Alicia and Krista for the nursing care with the Extra Mural Program during the last month, and to Newnham & Slipp Pharmacy for providing a high level of personal service to Naida.  She will be missed by all who knew her.
