Marguerite Mary Elizabeth Mccormick's Obituary
Marguerite 'Marge' McCormick, died with family at her side on April 28th, after a few short hours at the hospital in Waterville, N.B. She was 81.
Born Marguerite Mary Elizabeth McCarthy to James McCarthy and Edna (nee McCluskey), November 12, 1935 in Grand Falls, she was second youngest of 14 siblings. A second generation Canadian, her grandparents arrived in Saint John during the Irish Potato Famine and were quarantined for disease before moving upriver to Grand Falls.
Marge married Albert (Al) McCormick in 1955 in Grand Falls. They would later settle in Woodstock to raise a family. Marge and Al were married 61-years until he died in May 2016. She is survived by all her children, Karyn (Steve Tibbitts) of Rothesay, Michael (Sue Campbell) of Fredericton, Joanne (Stephen Crabbe) of St. Andrews, Peter (Angela Paul) of Woodstock, and Andrew (Audrey Burpee) of Woodstock.
She has two living siblings, Sister Doreen McCarthy of Saint John, and Basil McCarthy of Fredericton. Her family also includes 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Marge will be remembered as a breath of fresh air, kind-hearted, and truly funny. She was devoted to her children, and made a good home on Green Street in Woodstock. Proud graduation pictures came to line the stairway. Later, grandchildren would be greeted with biscuits and hot turkey soup.
After the death of Al, Marge moved to an apartment at Riverside Court in Woodstock. Even in her late age she learned to be independent, supported by a loving family. Her children and family remember meaningful times spent with Marge over the past year and throughout their lives together. She was proud of her family and happiest hearing about the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Resting at the Scott Funeral home 815 Main Street Woodstock. It is the family's request that there be no Visitation.
There will be a memorial for family on Saturday, May 6, beginning 12 p.m., at Riverside Court in Woodstock. A reception will be followed by a small gathering at the Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Brunswick Lung Association.
