Lorne E. Steeves of Woodstock passed away at home December 6, 2010.

Born in Grafton, N.B. on December 2, 1925, to the late Jennie Mae (Briggs) and Hazen Steeves, this week Lorne celebrated his 85th birthday surrounded by family and great friends.

Lorne will be missed by many including children Gregory, Woodstock and Mary Lee [Ken Curren] Steeves,Belan, N. S. , sister Geneva McCordick (Toronto), , sister-in-law Mildred (Moncton). His many valued cousins, nieces and nephews will remember him with a smile and with gratitude for his gentle and loving presence among them, his encouragement and support, and for serving as a pillar of his extended family.

Lorne was predeceased by wife Leona Marguerite (Fox) as well as his valued companion Ruth Fewer, brother Wesley, and sister Phyllis. Through his life, he has been blessed to live in a town that he so valued, among family he cherished and Saint James United Church, its congregation and choir that he so loved as a tenet of the tenor section for over 60 years. Still remembered and invited to return for all gatherings that included food and friendship, Lorne worked most of his career with the NB Department of Transportation. However, in Woodstock most think of him as "the bicycle man", the great fellow who taught many of their children to ride a bike, replaced them as the little ones grew taller and supported their adult bike needs through later years. It was this hobby-turned-business that gave Lorne great joy during his retirement years, working with his son and staying in touch with his community.

Funeral Service was held on December 9th , 2010 from the St. James United Church, Woodstock, NB.

Rev. Debra Baker officiated with interment in the Woodstock Methodist Cemetery.
