Obituary

With broken hearts the family of Jacqueline Edna (Spires) Gouthro RN wish to announce her passing on June 15, 2021, at her home in London, Ontario, with her best friends Maude Boulier and Patti Lauber by her side, after a courageous, but short, battle with cancer.

Jackie was born in Fredericton, NB. She was the only daughter of the late Arthur and Edith Spires.

Jackie was predeceased by her husband James Gouthro (2011), by her brother Tom (2013) and her brother Maurice (2018) .

She is survived by her brother Wayne and his wife Beverly of St. Stephen; their children Rev. Tami and Mead Baldwin of Quebec, Sarah and Rob Rankin of Saint John, and Tina of St. Stephen, brother Gordon and his wife Mavis Spires of Woodstock; Carrie Spires and Richard Monteith ;Scott Spires and Sandra DeMerchant of Woodstock, great nieces Emma Monteith, Morgan Monteith and her fur baby Callie ; many cousins and friends.

Jackie graduated from Hartland High School in 1967, after which she entered the Carleton Memorial School of Nursing where she graduated from in 1971. Her first job was in Hearst, Ontario in  labour and delivery, with fellow graduate Sheila (Tomilison) Cowie. Both girls found the remoteness of Hearst, hard to cope with so they moved to positions in London, Ontario. After a year in London they moved to positions in Vancouver, BC.  After a year in BC, they both returned to London, where Jackie remained until her death.

Jackie was able to take early retirement from London, Health Sciences. During her years in London she always took winter vacations in numerous warm locations;  Acapulco, Cancun, Hawaii, Mexico, and Cuba.

She enjoyed her work in labour and delivery and also enjoyed her hobbies; golf, Red Hatter Society, gardening, retired nurse's monthly gatherings and caring for her fur babies.  She always participated in the Ovarian Cancer Walk each year.

After losing her husband Jim, Jackie travelled home for a month at Christmas to enjoy the Drost Yankee Swap and all the wonders of Christmas with her family. Then coming home for a month each year during the summer.

The Interment of her ashes will be held on August 28, 2021 at 2 pm  at the Woodstock Rural Cemetery. Rev. Walter Williams will be officiating.
