Irene Jane
Campbell
Jun 26, 1948 — Nov 7, 2023
Irene Jane Campbell (Monteith): 1948 - 2023.
Irene was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, on June 26, 1948, and grew up in Woodstock and Fredericton. She met Bob in 1965 at a car racetrack in Douglas, New Brunswick. Bob immediately fell in love with her big brown eyes and beautiful smile. They married in 1968 and spent every day of the next 55 years saying, "I love you" to each other. Irene and Bob supported each other through good times and bad. They shared a true love, standing beside each other and remaining committed to each other, no matter what life threw at them.
Bob was in the Army for 35 years, which meant that Irene had to give up her career and move every 4 years or so to the next posting – from coast to coast and many points in between. Irene became a full-time mother, to Michelle and Michael, and a homemaker, often dealing with childhood events while Bob was away on a course, deployment, or other military activity.
After being posted to Base Borden for a number of years, Bob decided to retire from the Army. Irene wanted to stay in the Barrie area and found the beautiful lot on which to have their lovely home built. Irene especially enjoyed planning their wonderful gardens and having Bob plant and trim specific plants.
Irene loved to read, especially historical romances. She loved spending time at Myrtle Beach, in a beach-front condo they rented several times. She loved walking on the beach. Irene also loved sitting out in their own backyard, taking in the natural beauty of the wildlife, as well as the trees, flowers, and shrubs.
They shared the joy of seeing their children become parents and of becoming grandparents. Irene and Bob loved watching their grandchildren grow into adults, and attending Caroline and Simon's wedding in October 2023 was a special highlight for her, especially dancing with Jonah!
Irene passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on November 7, 2023. She was predeceased by: parents Harrison and Nina (Cook) Monteith; and siblings Jeannine (Ralph) Helsey, Victor (Carol Ann), Margret (Dave) Lockwood, Roger (Bonnie), Richard (Judy), Pauline (John) Belyea, and Connie (Ross) Myers. She is survived by: siblings Allison (Beverly), Geri (Chris) Kilburn, and Hugh; husband Bob; children Michelle (Joe) and Michael (Sheri); and grand-children Caroline (Simon) Cerruti and Jonah Downy.
There will be a Celebration of Life and interment Service on June 26, 2024 starting at 11:00 am at the Kirk Cemetery, Northampton, New Brunswick.
This will be followed by a reception at Camp Magaguadavic, 9 Hoyt Lane, Prince William Parish, New Brunswick.
