Obituary

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our cherished father, grandfather, and friend, Howard Bruce Kirkpatrick. Howard was born to Gladys and Harry Kirkpatrick in Digby, Nova Scotia on May 21, 1935. He is predeceased by his parents, sisters Connie and Nancy, and his beloved wife, Marion. He is survived by his children, Tim Kirkpatrick (Faye) and Krista MacInnis (Paul), and granddaughters Marta MacInnis, Marnie Allain, and Raquel MacInnis.

Howard's childhood was spent by the shore in Digby with his loving family. He relocated to Fredericton in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of New Brunswick. It was there that he eventually met the love of his life, Marion. They wed in 1960 and continued their love story across the border while Howie completed his master's in education at the University of Maine in Orono. Howard and Marion then settled in Woodstock, where they raised their family together with love and developed deep roots in the community. Howard had a long career as an educator and principal at Woodstock High School where he was an advocate for many students. Howard cemented his legacy as a pillar of the Woodstock community through sports, education, church, volunteering, politics, and always being there to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone in need.

Howard will be remembered by his family and friends in many ways. He was a multi-sport varsity athlete, a skier, a golfer, a swimmer, a sailor, a tennis player, a coach, a dancer, a fisherman, a scallop-shucker, a golf-ball collector, an entrepreneur, a handyman, and a hard worker. Howard loved chocolate bars, diamonds, lobster, music, movies, naps, winters in Florida, summers at the lake, his family, and his granddaughters. He was a true gentleman, a loyal friend, and loved his Miss New Brunswick until the end.

Howard's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the incredible staff at the Carleton Manor for the compassion, love, and care they provided to Howie in his final days.
