Herman Richard Varney of Marne, husband of Jean M. (Whittey) Varney, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Carleton Memorial Hospital. Born at North Lake, he was a son of the late Eben and Essie (Watson) Varney. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Herman is survived by a daughter, Carol Rattray (Paul) of Perth-Andover; sons Curtis Varney (Luann) of Marne and Brian Varney (Darlene) of Dead Creek; a sister, Violet Fish of Woodstock; grandchildren Chris Lyons (Amanda), Derrick Lyons (Tosha), Vanessa Varney (Jason MacIntyre), Trina Dorish (Joe), Deanna Edwards (Neil), Alex Varney, MacKenzie Varney, Selena Varney, Michael Varney, Cassandra Rattray, and Billy Rae Rattray; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Herman was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Barriner; a grandson, Brian Varney, Jr., and by five brothers and four sisters. Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM from the Scott Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Darrell McLellan will be officiating, with interment in the Canterbury Cemetery.
