Obituary

Helen M. Ross passed away on Friday April 23,2021 at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, NB.

Helen was born February 17, 1930 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, daughter of the late Leo Moore and Berthenia O'Connor. Predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Cyril, and her older brother Raymond. Survived by her children Ray (Marjorie Allison-Ross), Mary Ellen (Blair Dwyer), and John (Megan Sandel), her grandchildren Alyson (Matt Clark), Patrick, Brendan, Conor, Declan, and Maeve, her great-grandson Theo, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Helen was raised by a widowed mother during the Depression. A lifelong avid reader, she was happy to grow up a stone's throw from the local library. She was grateful for the opportunity to attend university, and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University summa cum laude in 1951, winning the Janet Cameron Award. A daughter of educators, she became a teacher herself, and taught in McAdam and at Woodstock High School. She met the love of her life, Cyril, at the harness races on Island Park in Woodstock, and they were married in 1954.

Helen loved Woodstock and enjoyed giving back to her community. She served as a leader and commissioner in the Girl Guide movement. Her faith community at St. Gertrude's Church was a central source of friendship and support in her life. She led adult education classes there, was an active member of the Catholic Women's League, and was a longtime member of the Associates of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame.

She was a friend and confidante to many, both young and old, and treasured the many connections she made over the years. Her mischievous sense of humor, low tolerance of nonsense, and boundless love and enthusiasm for all those in her life will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley Food Bank in Woodstock.

Helen is resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street. Woodstock, NB.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 27 at the Scott Funeral Home from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.

Helen's funeral service will be held at Saint Gertrude's Church at 11 AM on Wednesday April 28. Those with a Facebook account can watch online by following the church's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/st.g.church.1
