The family of Harold Allen Bonnell, Southampton, formerly of Woodstock, is sad to announce his death at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Sunday, February 4, 2007 after a long period of declining health. Born at Mouth of Keswick on February 16, 1921, he was the youngest child of Frank and Lily (Dunphy) Bonnell. He was raised in Fredericton but spent the major part of his life in Woodstock. Harold was a commercial traveler in the foods industry. In addition, he and his wife Clora were self-employed as co-owners of Estabrook Drygoods in Woodstock (1959-1970) and Buttons 'n Bows in Riverview (1971-1981). A Veteran of the Second World War, Harold joined the army after high school graduation in 1939, and he proudly served his country with the RCASC in England and Continental Europe from 1942-1945, rising to the rank of Captain. Harold was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 11, the Woodstock Masonic Lodge, and the Luxor Shrine. He served on the board of the Fisher Memorial Library. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, curler, barbershop singer; and as a bridge player, he was one of the last remaining members of "The Hole in the Wall" in Woodstock. His passion, since retirement, was genealogy research. Harold was predeceased by his wife, the former Clora Stephenson/Miller; his son, Stephen, sisters Edna and Evelyn (McInnis), and brothers Russell and Burton. He is survived by daughters Susan Orr (Clifford), Southampton; Ann Kelley (Paul), Charlottetown; and Barbara Reid (David), Fredericton; grandchildren Alison Orr (Louis Barry), Whitehorse, Yukon; Amy Reid, Fredericton; and Adam Reid, Saint John; great grandchildren Alex and Emily Reid; sister-in-law Margaret Bonnell, Fredericton; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, with memorial service at Scott Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the CNIB, the Shriners' Hospitals, or the history/genealogy section of the Fisher Memorial Library, Woodstock.
