Gerald (Gerry) Roy Henley of Woodstock, NB passed away peacefully at home on March 16, 2021 at the age of 78.

He was predeceased by his wife, Judy Henley (Smythe), in 2013 to whom he was married for 46 years, and his parents, Gerald Vincent Hanley and Kathleen May Hanley (Yetman).

Gerry is lovingly remembered by his sons, David and Donald; daughters-in-law, Rhonda and Leslie; grandchildren, Marina, William, Cameron and Keira, all of whom he was particularly proud of; sisters, Debbie Watt and Carolyn Hudson; brothers John and Wayne; sisters-in-law, Norah and Mary Jo, and many nieces and nephews.

Gerry was born in Brighton, England, on November 23, 1942. His mother, Kathleen was a war bride so Gerry spent the first four years of his life in Brighton.  After the war, Gerry and his mother travelled to Nova Scotia on the SS Britannic, arriving through Pier 21 like many immigrants of that time.  He was shocked later in life when he applied for a passport to learn that he remained a landed immigrant, something that was quickly resolved through a citizenship application.

Gerry worked for the Bank of Montreal for 35 years, retiring in 1996 after many years as the Manager of the Woodstock branch.  Gerry loved to tell stories about his time with the Bank, particularly during the early days when Bank Managers were issued a pistol, something he felt was more dangerous for him than a would-be robber.  Gerry had a camp in Mainstream, NB, where he loved spending time with his family.  His days at the camp were mostly spent fishing and evenings were occupied with cards and boardgames until David and Donnie were too tired to continue.  The evenings were often interrupted by the sound of Gerry's twelve-gauge shotgun going off to chase porcupines away from chewing the camp and the car's brakelines. Later, Gerry and Judy enjoyed spending many winters in Myrtle Beach and Panama City Beach where Gerry fished and Judy cooked the catch.

After Judy's death in 2013, Gerry eventually found love again with Marilyn Fisher of Bangs Falls, Nova Scotia, returning to the area in which he grew up.  He spent a great deal of time shuttling between Woodstock and Bangs Falls to spend as much time as possible with Marilyn.

Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB. There will be no visitation or Funeral Service at this time.

A memorial service may be scheduled in the future when conditions permit.  Gerry will be buried in the family plot in Chelsea, Nova Scotia next to Judy and his parents.

David and Donnie will always remember the subject of Gerry's final email to them entitled "Shit Happens". Remember that!
