Cyril was born February 4, 1926 in Blackville, New Brunswick, son of the late Charles Ross and Cora Hawes. Predeceased by his eight older brothers and sisters, Lawrence, Alexis, Ethel, Gerald, Barry, Adrian, Margaret, and Basil. Survived by his beloved wife Helen (Moore), to whom he was married for 63 years, his children Ray (Marjorie Allison-Ross), Mary Ellen (Blair Dwyer) and John (Megan Sandel), his grandchildren Alyson (Matt Clark), Patrick, Brendan, Conor, Declan and Maeve, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Teachers' College in Fredericton in 1945, and became principal of Southampton Regional High School in 1948. He left teaching to work in the lumber business, first for Southampton Contractors in Nackawic, and then as President of Maritime Lumber Limited, which he founded. An advocate for sustainable forestry, he deplored the rampant clearcutting of New Brunswick forests, and was a champion of native Canadian hardwoods such as hard maple and yellow birch.

He was a devoted husband and father, and a kind and generous man who took a deep and genuine interest in everyone he met. Cyril was an immensely social man whose sense of humour and love of a good story never deserted him, even during his last days. He had a profound curiosity and was a lifelong reader with a deep interest in history and politics. He was a devout member of his faith community at Saint Gertrude's Catholic Church, and a fourth degree member of the Woodstock Council of the Knights of Columbus.

Visitation will be from 3-7 PM Tuesday March 6th at Scott Funeral Home in Woodstock. A funeral Mass will take place at 11 AM Wednesday March 7th at Saint Gertrude's Catholic Church in Woodstock.
