Obituary

Dr. Charles Gordon Ross died peacefully in his 92nd year on August 14, 2013 at Dufferin Oaks Nursing Home, Shelburne, Ontario .

Gordon was the son of Loggi and Clara (Dickenson) Ross and grew up in Woodstock N.B. Following high school he served in the Second World War as an army Lieutenant. After the war he attended the University of Toronto School Of Optometry and became Carleton County's first doctor of optometry. He enjoyed an active practice for over forty years during which time he served as the president for the provincial and national Canadian Optometric Society.

In his retirement he wrote a book on "The History of Optometry in Canada". Gordon was an active member in the St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Woodstock N.B and an elder for over 50 years.

He loved to sing and could be found singing in barbershop quartets or the choir on Sunday morning. He also participated in Christian missions to Guatemala with his wife Meredith. Gordon was an avid skier, both downhill and cross-country.

It was a joy for him to be with his family and friends on a ski hill on a clear winter's day and he would remark that, "this was a premium plus, plus day". Gordon's death is preceded by his wife Meredith (McLean) 2007 and former wife Maxine (Wakem) 1979 and brother Robert Ross. He is survived by his children Andy Ross (Nancy), Paula Curtis (Mal), Christina Jeffrey (Shawn) and grandchildren Laura Ross, Wendy Ross-Clark, Jena Clark, Madeline Clark, Natalie Ayling , Daniel Curtis, Sophia Jeffrey, Joshua Jeffrey, great grandchildren Luke Roland, Brielle Ayling, Caleb Ayling, Noah Ayling, Ava Curtis , many nieces, nephews and large extended family. The family wishes to thank the Lord Dufferin Manor in Orangeville, ON and the Dufferin Oaks in Shelburne, ON.
