Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce Barbara Jean Ritchie – a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend – passed away at the age of eighty-two on July 26, 2025.

Barbara was born October 31, 1942 at Carleton Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, NB, graduated from Woodstock High School in 1961 and married her beloved husband Maurice Aubrey Ritchie in 1966.  She is survived by Maurice,  daughter Michelle (Greg), son Kyle (Lee-Ann), three beautiful grandchildren -- Olivia (Precious), Samuel (our Sam) and Owen (that Owen)  —  as well as sisters Brenda (late Pat), Charlotte (Wiley), Rita (Jim), Marlene  (Wes), Judy  and Sherry and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her mom Fern, step-dad McLeod and brother Owen.

Barbara felt raising her children with Maurice was the most important and rewarding thing she ever did.  Before they were born, she worked at Stedman's and for Dr. Gordon Ross and after they were born she supported Maurice as he started his plumbing business.  As her children grew, Barbara continued to play a role in the business and was an active member of the Wesleyan Church as a Sunday School teacher, Junior Church leader and CYC leader.  For a time she was also a teacher at Happy Days Kindergarten and worked at the LP Fisher Library children's department where she was the story lady, a role she also played every Christmas Eve with her family around her.

Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB

Per her wishes, services will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Carleton Manor would be welcomed.
