Arthur Hazen Spires of Wakefield, husband of the late Edith I. (MacDonald) Spires, passed away at Carleton Memorial Hospital in Woodstock on Friday, December 17, 2004, at the age of 82. Born at St. Stephen, he was the son of the late Stephen and Florence (Murphy) Spires. Arthur is survived by four sons, Gordon Spires (Mavis) of Newbridge, Wayne Spires (Bev) of St. Stephen, Maurice Spires of Vancouver, BC, and Tom Spires of Saint John; a daughter, Jackie Gouthro (Jim) of London, Ontario; a brother, Lester Spires (Eva) of Nepean, Ontario; two sisters-in-law, Florence Piercy (Ewen) of Fredericton and Alberta Spires of St. Stephen; seven grandchildren, Tami, Tina, Sarah, Carrie, Scott, Amanda, and Ann; a great granddaughter, Emma; his special friend, Patricia Wetmore; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Arthur was predeceased by four brothers, Maurice, Vincent, Maynard, and Hedley; and by a sister, Myrtle Denley. Resting at The Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM from St. Luke's Anglican Church. The Venerable Walter Williams will be officiating, with interment in the Woodstock Rural Cemeteryat a later date.
